mycleverpuppy.com - Dog Training and Behavior Consulting

I heard about Connie’s class through friends at work and I knew I
had to try this class.  The first night the barking didn’t stop so we
spent the session in the hall practicing what was learned in class.
Although she was good at following instructions, as soon as we tried
entering the class with the other dogs the barking would start.  Back
to the hall we went.  Connie and the other trainers would check on
us often and offer tips.  Ok I thought, she is listening to instruction,
so next week will be better.

Not so --- we spent another evening in the hall.  At the end of the
evening I thought to myself that this wasn’t working and we weren’t
coming back.  The next morning I received an email from Connie.
Even though I had not expressed my thoughts to her, she had
sensed my frustration and encouraged me to continue.  She offered
to meet me before the other members of the class arrived so that we
could work on the lessons and to work on Foxie’s socialization skills.
She even consulted other trainers to get suggestions on how to keep
Foxie focused on the tasks at hand and not the other dogs.  To my
amazement Foxie continued to improve and she learned all the
lessons.  She still can’t be around a park full of dogs, but she doesn’t
bark at the neighbors or their two dogs anymore and our walks
around the neighborhood are now enjoyable.

Connie is truly a remarkable and dedicated trainer.  Because of her
understanding and love of animals, she sees the problems and will
do whatever it takes to find the solutions.  Because of Connie’s faith
in Foxie and the constant encouragement she gave me, we didn’t
give up and I will always be thankful.

We almost gave up …..  I had a new
rat terrier/Papillion mix puppy that I was
positive was going to become a well-
socialized member of the family.  After a
few trips to the local park, I was
beginning to think differently.  She would
constantly bark at everyone and
everything that moved.  Even though she
only weighs 10 lbs, I thought she would
pull my arm off. She wanted to jump on
and play with every person and animal in
sight.  These walks were not enjoyable at
all.  I was constantly apologizing to
people for “our” behavior, since I knew I
was as much to blame as she was.
This was our last straw, we were about to give up. Our new puppy,
Nikki, a 6 month old Akita, was supposed to be a happy addition to
the family but instead was becoming a terror!  She was chewing and
basically destroying everything!! Leaving her home during the day
with Pugsly, our 2 year old pug, was becoming a frightful event! Nikki
was also such a chore to walk because of her extreme pulling.

We learned about Connie's classes and training program through an
ad in the newspaper. After a few emails explaining our troubles,
Connie met at our home to work with the 2 dogs. After only a few
short hours, we could see an improvement in Nikki.

Connie is a very helpful and dedicated trainer and not only did she
teach us valuable training techniques but also has given us hope and
determination.

Nikki, Pugsly and all of our family are extremely thankful to Connie
and very happy to have been given the opportunity to meet her!

"Don't Ever Judge A Book By It's Cover", that's what we truly
believe after rescuing Sam our German Shepherd.  Sam came to us
a scared, abused,  no confidence and a very vocal dog.  When we
first brought him home and took him to his first vet appointment, I
thought we got  the most dominant aggressive dog by the way he
acted towards other dogs at the veterinarian's that day.  I
immediately went home and made a few phone calls to find an
obedience trainer.  I didn't even want Sam around children for
awhile.  I was advised to contact Connie Dwyer, obedience trainer
and behavioral specialist.  I called Connie that day and she
returned my phone call that very night.  She was so gracious on the
phone and spent about forty-five minutes talking with me about
Sam and some of his behavior traits he was showing as rescue
dogs sometime do.  She advised me on some of the techniques
that we could work on with Sam until classes started up in January.
She also was gracious enough in the weeks to come to answer
questions I had through emails and more phone calls.

I remember our first night going to class, Sam acted out so vocally
due to a lack of confidence in himself, just wanting to play and lack
of socialization.  Connie took Sam and us out in the hall and
showed us how to calm him down.  Once he calmed down, we went
a little closer to the obedience classroom and our fellow obedience
classmates.  We did this our whole first session working with Sam
out in the hallway but seeing is believing and I am a definite
believer in Connie's training methods.  By the end of that session,
Sam was calm and spent the whole next class with a group of
twelve dogs.  Sam has been in Connie's classes ever since then.
We are now working with Connie on Sam earning his "Canine Good
Citizenship".  Also when Sam first came to Connie's class we had
him in a prong collar.  We are now working him gradually out of a
prong collar and on a nylon collar that was a huge step for him
because he was pulling us all over when we first started him in dog
obedience.

Connie is a true inspiration to us and she can take any dog and
turn that dog around with love, care, repetition and positive
training methods.  She has a true rapport with animals.  I have
seen her work wonders with dogs that have come into her
obedience classes.  She as a behavioral specialist is outstanding.
So many dogs get tagged as being dominant aggressive and that a
lot of times is not the case as in our dog, "Sam."  He just wanted
to play and was extremely vocal.  Connie watched his body
language and posture and pointed out different things to us.  I
would highly recommend Connie to anyone who wants to teach
their dog with love, dedication and repetition.  She is truly
dedicated to her class and training dogs with positive training
techniques, NOT FORCE!!!  I will also say that our rescue dog, Sam
has done really well with Connie's positive training program.

So before you judge a book by its cover and think your dog is
non-trainable, please give Connie Dwyer a call and sign up for her
obedience training and if you have a dog that you believe has a
true behavioral problem as we did,  call Connie and set up an
appointment for an evaluation.  As you can see by Sam's picture he
absolutely loves kids!

With Many Thanks,
Debbie, John and Sam
