Our equine learning program is centered around the principles and beliefs that a
horse and rider BOTH have a voice in the partnership. Our teaching program offers
lessons educating you on how to be clear and motivating to your horse. You will
also learn to listen to them, to hear their “voice” and develop training plans that
allow your horse to progress, willingly and rapidly, without force, in a stress-free
manner.
You will discover a partnership that you never dreamed could be possible. Your
horse will radiate confidence and pride and unbelievable motivation.
At ESS we start our communication on the ground. This allows the conversation
between horse and rider to develop on an equal footing without the distraction of the
riders weight or confusion of misapplied aids. The pair will develop a relaxed focus
on each other, which is paramount to success.
We break down the lessons into the smallest pieces required to keep the horse
successful. This process actually allows the horse to develop much more quickly and
with a solid foundation of the basics, missing pieces can be discovered early on and
filled in before they can do any damage to the horse’s attitude or well-being. Our
goal is to keep the training atmosphere safe, calm and positive from the beginning
of the foundation exercises right up through to the upper level performance
movements.
This teaching method also saves the long-term soundness of the horse by teaching
him to find his balance from the very start of his development. While this would be
best to apply at an early age it is none-the-less advantageous for the older horse.
Our clinics and workshops will help you to develop understandable lesson plans for
your horse. By working in small, definable steps, you will both gain the trust,
confidence and understanding that you need to develop as a team. You can apply
this to ANY and ALL aspects of your horse training. We are here to open the door
to the many wonderful possibilities….who knows what good things you will find on
the other side !
Over the last 9 years, I have been studying behavior management with a focus on
positive reinforcement and applying it to teaching and learning from my horses,
everything from basic manners to performance riding to trick training. I have
taught classes through local educational institutions such as BOCES, Broome
Community College and Cornell University's Cooperative Extension. I also coach
people on a one on one basis.
I hold a Master of Science degree in Systems Science where my work involved the
study of behavioral learning systems. I am a Certified Member of the International
Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). I have participated in the 1st
International Instructors Clinic for Equine Clicker Trainers and I am a proud
member and founding trustee of the Education Foundation For Equine Clicker
Trainers (Click-EFFECT).
My goal is to share this extremely effective and life changing method with all those
who have a passion for their equine companion. Along with ESS clinics and
workshops, I am available for private coaching and consulting, as well as demos
